Cobweb News

We had a wonderful event on Sunday with Amy Yule and 5 amazing flautists who were brave enough to play solo with the willing orchestra. Despite a few library malfunctions, we had a fantastic day which concluded with Amy treating us to a performance of Concertino by Chaminade which was thrilling! A special thank you to Catherine and Mike, who stepped in to conduct the day so well.

Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No. 2 with Helen Farrar
Sunday 21st November
Appleby Town Hall, Boroughgate
Appleby-In-Westmorland, CA16 6YB
**Violin 1 and Cello players needed!**
We are so delighted that Helen Farrar will join us in a much-anticipated, this time live in person workshop on Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No.2. Helen has travelled the world performing with many orchestras and making guest recitals at prestigious venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, as part of the Opal Foundation ‘The Magic of Music’. Helen has also performed in Windsor as part of the Windsor Arts festival, Music in The Round in Sheffield and so we are delighted that we are have the opportunity to work with her. You might remember she joined us during the lockdown as we had a go at the Rachmaninov Concerto No. 2 virtually, but we all agreed that we had to try this one out live, so we really hope you’ll be able to join us and make this a very special event with Helen. If you’re interested please enrol as soon as possible by clicking the link here.

Haydn Symphonies Project
Saturday 11th December, 11-4pm
St. Matthew’s Church Hall, Summerhill, NE4 6EJ
Cost: £12/£15
Join us as we squeeze one more event in before Christmas in the 16th session of the Haydn Symphonies Project. We have now looked at 85 symphonies and will be resuming our journey in 1785, with four of the Paris Symphonies 83 (La Poule), 84, 85 (La Reine) and 87 together with symphonies 89 and 91. All of these symphonies have parts for strings, flute, oboes, bassoons, and horns. Clarinets are welcome to join in and oboe parts transposed for Bb clarinets will be available. The preparation of parts for this project is time consuming so it would be appreciated if you could enrol as soon as possible to also allow time to fill any holes in the orchestra. The day will be subject to any ongoing Covid precautions and guidance given by Cobwebs Trustees.
