In this weeks Cobweb News:
Middlesbrough Town Hall Reopening
Haydn Symphonies Project – part 8
Schumann Cello Concerto
Northern Chords 50% Ticket Deal

Reopening of Middlesbrough Town Hall
Performance: Friday 11th May
Rehearsal:10 am – 3 pm
Concert: 4 pm
Rehearsal: Monday 7th May 7-9 pm

**places particularly available for violins/violas, bassoons, trombones**

Many Cobweb players will have fond memories of events in this wonderful building before it was closed for refurbishment and will now have to opportunity in being involved in one of the first events after its re-opening.
We will form an adult orchestra to play alongside children from Middlesbrough in a performance of Elgar’s “Wand of Youth” suite no. 2. Elgar conducted the LSO in this piece in the same building in 1909. A visit which is commemorated in the stained glass window naming all the distinguished musicians who have played there.

The performance, because it involves children, is an early evening one, with a rehearsal during the day, but we are hoping some people might be able to juggle their daytime commitments to be there.
Also, players who can only make the performance will still be welcome if they are able to attend a rehearsal on the preceding Monday. The Billingham group have kindly suspended their usual session so that players be there if they wish.

Join Peter Wood for the 8th installment of the Haydn Symphonies Project. If you haven’t been to one yet, do consider going along. Peter is very informative of the works so it makes for a relaxed and interesting day.

For these symphonies we are back to scoring for strings, bassoons, 2 horns and 2 oboes. As usual other instruments are welcome but unfortunately there will be no transposed parts available.

Schumann Cello Concerto with Tanya Anisimova
Sunday 20th May, 2-6pm
Eldon Community Centre, 2 Main Rd, Eldon, Bishop Auckland, DL14 8XB

American-Russian cellist Tanya Anisimova and Andy Jackson will work with us on the Schumann Cello Concerto. Tanya is also performing at Ushaw College on the previous evening, so you can make a weekend of it.

The work is scored for solo cello, two flutes, two oboes, two clarinets, two bassoons, two horns, two trumpets, timpani, and strings so we’re looking for a full orchestra to accompany Tanya for the afternoon to enjoy this mysterious work.

You can have a look at the music in advance at the link below:,_Op.129_(Schumann,_Robert)

Tanya Anisimova UK mini tour
Tanya Anisimova will be performing solo cello recitals in Wensleydale and Durham and also making her London debut recital with cello and piano in London in May.
We are also arranging a masterclass and cello workshop day in addition to the Cobwebs study day on Schumann’s cello concerto.
Here are the the full list if concerts/events you might be interested in … it would be great to see Cobweb members at some and also really helpful if you could help spread the word.

12th May – Solo recital in Wensleydale at 7.30pm. Including works by Zoltan Kodaly, JS Bach, Marin Marais and Tanya Anisimova.

And for cellists …
12th May (morning) – Cello Masterclass in Carperby Hall in Wensleydale. There are four places for participating cellists. Tanya is a really amazingly perceptive and encouraging teacher and this is an unusual opportunity for anyone feeling ready to take part in a masterclass (you don’t have to be conservatoire standard but comfortable playing in front of others).
13th May – Day Cello Workshop – with a focus on ensemble playing and improvisation. (roughly grade 5+)
Cellists do you fancy a cello weekend in Wensleydale for the three events on 12/13 May.  If  you need accommodation suggestions or are interested in taking part in the masterclass or workshop contact Carol Haynes as soon as possible.

19th May – Solo Recital at Ushaw College Chapel, Durham (the same programme as May 12th concert above)

If you have any questions or are interested in the cello activities you can contact Carol Haynes via  via:
