Cobweb News 09.07.2018

I hope you’ve all had a good week, congratulations to the Cobweb Chamber Orchestra who put on a fantastic concert on Saturday. I heard it went very well, so well done – and thanks to all those who went along to support. I know a lot of you are wrapping up in your groups this week, but I’ve been asked to tell you that the Summerhill group are going ahead on Wednesdays 11th & 18th July 1-3pm. All welcome. Parking is limited so please allow for larger instruments. Summerhill is 10-15 mins walk from station. Do go along if you can!

Haydn Symphonies Project – part 9
Saturday 14th July
Eldon Community Centre, 2 Main Rd, Eldon, Bishop Auckland DL14 8XB
Members £12.50/Non Members £17

**We could really do with many horn players and oboe players (or flutists who can play oboe parts) for this event – please let me know ASAP if you’re planning to attend**

Join Peter Wood for the latest instalment of the Haydn Symphonies Project.
He says:
With 45 Haydn symphonies now behind us we are going to clear another batch before the Summer break.  The 9th Haydn Project day will be held at Eldon Community Centre on Saturday July 14 from 11.00 until 4.00.  The Symphonies we will be looking at are: 26 (Lamentation), 65, 44 (Mourning), 43 (Mercury) and 47 all of which are “Sturm und Drang” (“Storm and Stress’”) symphonies written between 1768 and 1772. Haydn is now in his late 30’s and is the Musical Director at the Esterházy court. These symphonies are scored for strings, oboes and horns and bassoons would probably have supplemented the cellos and basses.  As usual flutes and clarinets are welcome to join us to play with oboes but please note the parts are written for instruments in C and transposed parts will not be available.  This day will take us roughly to the half way point (which I think we have already celebrated a bit prematurely!) and the project will continue in October (venue and date to be confirmed shortly).  The enrolment form is attached and I look forward to seeing you all at Eldon for the next step in this marathon journey.

Please note, that tea/coffee and cake will be available at Eldon but not lunches this time (she’s on holiday!) so please bring your own lunch!

The enrolment form can be found here

The audience are invited to bring food to eat either before the concert and enjoy an afternoon of music. The audience will be invited to pay what you think it’s worth.
**Please note, this event is open to everyone, not just the Summerhill group. It would be fantastic to see players far and wide!**
