Dear all,
A very Happy New Year from me, I see some groups have launched back into action with many new members – welcome! What a way to start the year?!
We have many events coming up, so please do read the Cobweb News’ and keep your eyes on the website for information.
**Month of Concertos**
January sees our annual ‘month of’… and this year we are doing concertos.
Many of your have signed up already but for those of you who just needed a bit more information – here goes:
Sunday 11th January – 2-6pm
Mozart Horn Concerto No. 3 and No.4 – Chris Griffiths
Wylam Institute, Church Rd, Wylam, NE41 8AP – Please note NOT Morpeth
We have a lovely orchestra shaping up for this one, and plenty of soloists which is fantastic! Please do come and support your fellow hornists! We have parts for every instrument (except Timps) so please don’t feel like you are not welcome if you know your instrument is not in the original scoring!
Saturday 17th January – 11-4pm
Mendelssohn Violin Concerto with Iona Brown and Richard Howarth
Dalston Victory Hall, Dalston, CA5 7QB
If you missed out on playing this wonderful piece with us at Sage Gateshead, you cannot miss it now! We’re still welcoming players from every section so please do enrol. Forms are available on the event webpage.
For this one we will be having a shared lunch.
Saturday 24th January – 11-4pm
Shostakovich Cello Concerto with Jonathan Bloxham and Stefan Hadjik
Dipton Community Centre, Dipton, DH9 9DR
Join us for this exciting challenge of Shostakovich Cello Concerto No. 2 when we are joined by young Bulgarian cellist Stefan Hadjik and conducted by Jonathan Bloxham whom many of you will know is an upcoming conductor as well as cellist.
We will again be having a shared lunch.
Saturday 31st Janaury – 11-4pm
Grieg Piano Concerto with Alison Gill
Salvation Army Parish Church, Front Street, Sherburn Hill, DH6 1PA
Our final installment of concertos will be in Sherburn Hill with the fantastic Alison Gill playing Grieg’s Piano Concerto. Do join Andy in what will be a brilliant day! Again, there will be a shared lunch.
And it doesn’t stop there!

Beethoven 5th Symphony with Anthony Sargent
Sage Gateshead, Gateshead, NE8 2JR
Have you ever wanted to have a go at arguably the most famous piece of music ever written? Now you can! Join General Director Anthony Sargent to go through this wonderful symphony. More information and booking can be found here:
Please do let me know when you have booked on so we know for music.
There will be a rehearsal for this one the evening before, Friday 6th February at Sage Gateshead, 7-9pm. It really is only for the people intending to join us on the Saturday. More information will be distributed about this soon.
