Haydn Symphonies Project – part 9
Sunday 21st October
Wylam Institute, Church Rd, Wylam, NE41 8AU
Members £12.50/Non Members £17
**Transposed Bb parts available**
Peter has managed to get the oboe parts transposed for Bb clarinet, so if any clarinetists want to join this study day, they now can! We’d also love a few more upper strings and another horn player to join for this study day of Haydn. More info from Peter below:
With 45 Haydn symphonies now behind us the 9th Haydn Project day will be held at Wylam Institute on Sunday October 21 2018 from 11.00 until 4.00.  The Symphonies we will be looking at will include: 26 (Lamentation), 65, 44 (Mourning), 43 (Mercury) and 47 all of which are “Sturm und Drang” (“Storm and Stress’”) symphonies written between 1768 and 1772. Haydn is now in his late 30’s and is the Musical Director at the Esterházy court. These symphonies are scored for strings, oboes and horns.  This day will take us roughly to the half way point (which I think we have already celebrated a bit prematurely!) and the project will continue on 12 January 2019 in York.  The enrolment form is attached and I look forward to seeing you all at Wylam for the next step in this marathon journey.
Please find attached the enrolment form here.

Revival of the Baroque Group.
Sadly there has been a poor take up of the idea of a meeting at Andrew’s on a Wednesday. Only two people responded positively. However, I have provisionally booked the hall at Dipton for Thursday October 25th at 7.15, the day the Dipton group is not there.
Please do let me know ( if you would like to come, otherwise I will have to pay for an empty room!
I look forward to hearing from lots of string players, especially violins.. Ruth
Shepherds Dene Residential

A reminder to send over your deposits to Anita by the 19th October!
Original Message from Anita:
HI Everyone,
I hope you have all had a good summer enjoying the unusually warm weather.
For our ever popular Autumn Residential, we have again booked Shepherds Dene Retreat. The beautiful Edwardian country house, built in the ‘Arts and Crafts’ style, is set in 26 acres of gardens and woodland. The house features a large wood panelled entrance with wood burning stove (those of you who attended last year will know how wonderful it was sitting around it) and many original features in the sitting and dining rooms.
Space is limited with room for 33 residents and 10 non-residents so enrolments will be on a first come, first served basis bearing in mind that we have to keep a balanced orchestra.
Please can you have your deposits to me by the 19th October.
Best wishes,

Study Day: Elgar Symphony No.2 with Mark Edwards
Sunday 18th November
Fishburn Youth and Community Centre, Butterwick Rd
Fishburn, Stockton-on-Tees TS21 4ED
Members £12.50
Non Members £17
Join Mark Edwards for an epic study day on Elgar’s Symphony No. 2. Mark is currently studying at the Royal Northern College of Music for a Diploma in Conducting, which involves him working as assistant conductor for the BBC Philharmonic and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic . As part of the course, he’ll be working on Elgar’s Symphony No.2 in a masterclass with Sir Mark Elder. He invites you to work with him on this amazing piece for a large scale orchestra.
The music is not yet in the Cobweb Library, so we’d be so grateful if you could print your own part (and let us know that you’re doing so). We will be printing a small set but any help is gratefully received.

That’s all this week, gosh there’s so much going on! I hope to see you at an event soon.
