Cobweb News 13.7.18

We’re sorry to let you know that we’ve had to postpone the Haydn Symphonies Project part 9 that was scheduled for tomorrow. This is the message from Peter:

“Reluctantly the Haydn Symphonies workshop at Eldon on Saturday 14 July has been cancelled.  Whilst a small (but workable) number of strings have signed up for this event we have been unable to attract any horn or oboe players.   In addition to a number of apologies from people who will be on holiday comment has been received that the dates for the Haydn events need to be pubilshed earlier.  The next two sessions are already on the events calendar on the website (21 October at Wylam and 12 January at York). The next session after these will on 28 April, venue still to be decided.  Details of the symphonies to be played and the orchestration together with enrolment forms will be published in the Cobwebs Newsletters in good time before the events and I would encourage interested players to sign up early as this does help when planning events and fixing any holes in the orchestra..  I apologise for this cancellation but look forward to resuming this project in October.  There are some great symphonies coming up.  Have a great summer break and see you soon – Peter”

In this weeks Cobweb News:
– Musical Picnic and extra Summerhill session
– Dalston’s last session of the term – all welcome!

– Wylam Non Residential Weekend

Cobweb Orchestra Musical Picnic
Sunday 29th July
Summerhill Pavillion, Winchester Terrace, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE4 6EH
Members £12/Non Members £17

Rehearsal 12-4.
Audience to arrive with picnics from 4 pm
Performance 5-6.30 pm
There is a beautifully balanced orchestra coming together but more players are welcome – no limits on numbers for this one, so let me know if you intend being there. We’ll be performing under the giant marquee, so come rain or shine we’ll host a musical picnic of largely music from Europe, featuring composers such as Bizet, Rossini, Verdi, Chabrier, Delibes, Edith Piaf. The audience are invited to bring food to eat either before the concert and enjoy an afternoon of music. The audience will be invited to pay what you think it’s worth.
**Please note, this event is open to everyone, not just the Summerhill group. It would be fantastic to see players far and wide!**
The enrolment form with more information can be found here

Please note, there will be an extra Summerhill session 1-3 pm on Wednesday 25 July in preparation for the picnic. All again are welcome!

Dalston’s last session of the term – all welcome!
Dalston’s final rehearsal before the summer break is on Monday 16 July.  Players from other groups are welcome to join us to play through some of the music we have looked at this term and to partake in our usual end of summer term wine and strawberries.  Our rehearsal is from 7.30 to 9.30 at Dalston Victory Hall – full address and map on the cobwebs website

Wylam Non Residential Weekend
Saturday 1st September (10.30am – 8.30pm) – Sunday 2nd September (10.30 –  3.30pm)
Wylam Institute, Church Rd, Wylam, NE41 8AU

Our Wylam non-residential weekend (1st and 2nd September) this year will be devoted to music by Mozart. We are incredibly fortunate to be joined by Royal Northern Sinfonia’s bassoon player extraordinaire Stephen Reay, who will coach wind players in the glorious Serenade for 13 instruments k.361, and by Aurora strings violinist Jo Montgomery and ex-BBC NOW violist Chrissie Slater who will lead (mainly) string players in the equally glorious Sinfonia Concertante. The rather complicated timetable for the weekend will be ready soon, but, for the time being, get the dates in your diary if you want to take part in this special event. The enrolment form will be ready next week.

That’s all for now, I’m away on holiday now Sat 14th – Sat 21st July. I’ll respond to you as soon as I’m back – please bear with me. Have a lovely week!

Best wishes,
Event Coordinator, Cobweb Orchestra
