Come and play with the Ludworth Group
Saturday 19th January
11am-4pm
Ludworth Community Centre, North View, Ludworth, Durham, DH6 1NF

The Cobweb Orchestra recently received a generous grant from the Durham Community Foundation to develop the Ludworth Group. We’d like to attract new players to the group by providing opportunities for anyone to come and join in, even if they are complete beginners.
Do you know anyone who has never tried a musical instrument before and would love to be given the chance? Would you like to have a go with a different instrument yourself? The Cobweb ‘instrument bank’ will be available, as well as the Cobweb timpani.
There will be four tutors to give you guidance on how to play the instruments, and how to follow music and a conductor. You will be in safe hands, as they are already quite accustomed to Cobwebs! Peter Gulbis from our Billingham Group will lead the string section, while Laura Reavley, our Morpeth Group leader, will be in the wind section. Clare Carr used to conduct the Billingham group and after kindly taking over the baton at Ludworth for a while last year, she is looking forward to returning to help the brass section. We are also pleased to welcome back our Cobweb guest conductor Mark Edwards, this time to keep the percussion section in order!
All Cobwebbers are invited. Perhaps there is something that you’ve always wanted to ask, or you may just want to join in and play your usual instrument. Please come and meet our friendly Ludworth players, who may not have been to any other Cobweb events yet. You can view the Ludworth Group page on our website to see what we have been up to already. We would love you to share this exciting project with us.
Ludworth is only 7 miles or so away from Durham. The event is free, with a bring-and-share lunch, plus coffee and tea for a small contribution. You can enrol for the event in advance online here, and download a flyer here.

If you can’t make it this time, there will be second Saturday event on 11 May, and you’re still welcome to join us at Ludworth for our weekly sessions on a Tuesday evening 7 – 9 p.m.
Many of you will know me already also as a Cobweb clarinet player, so please get in touch if there is anything you need to know.

Ludworth Group Leader

Sedbergh Residential
7-9 April 2019

This will be our 13th  Sedbergh Residential Weekend which is the Cobweb Orchestra’s biggest event of the year.  Traditionally, it is full of orchestral playing but people still find time to eat, socialise and squeeze in the odd bit of ensemble playing.

There is always an interesting and extensive repertoire to work at during the weekend with a variety of tutors and special guests to ensure we get the most out of the chosen pieces.

We change and refine the timetable within the basic pattern every year so each weekend is unique, but our aim of playing as much orchestral music as we can in a limited time to the very best of our ability remains.

All the information you need is on this information and deposit form

BOOKING . . . If you would like to be part of the 2019 Sedbergh Residential please complete the booking form below and return with a non-refundable £30pp deposit by FRIDAY 8th of FEBRUARY.  The Sedbergh Residential is always a very popular event so please return your booking form early to avoid disappointment.

Pay What You Think It’s Worth

Join us for our annual Big Play, a chance for all groups to come together and share repertoire on a common theme. This year’s fantastic programme is filling out nicely with all sorts of imaginative interpretations of the theme “Cities”, including

Prague, Vienna, Oxford, New York, Paris, Naples, Plymouth, Seville, Kiev, Rio. The pieces might not be always the most obvious…

It’s a Pay What You Think It’s Worth event, so no advance payments, just bring along your pennies (and notes!).
All music will be provided on the da, but please bring a music stand
We’ll be enjoying a shared lunch, please feel free to contribute, adhering to the guidelines set out here: https://cobweborchestra.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Food-hygiene-at-Cobweb-events-1.pdf

It’s really important you let us know you’re coming so we have enough music for you all.

Many thanks for all your comments about our online sign up system, I think most of you are feeling positive, and there’s still tweaks I’m making (some you might not even notice) – but do keep feeding back, it really helps.
I look forward to seeing any of you at the Beginners Day on Saturday at Ludworth!
Best wishes,
Lorna
