Cobweb News 18: 01.08.15

Dear all,
I hope you’ve all had a lovely start to the Summer holidays – the weather is set to improve!
Congratulations to the Baroque Group who raised £300 for the Gateshead Foodbank last weekend, a brilliant achievement. Similarly, you might remember that the Brinkburn Quartet were bought in the auction at Middlesbrough to play for a concert. They gave a concert at Westerhope in aid of Christian Aid, and raised £332. It’s great to see how great music making can help others.
Good luck to all those performing at the Cleveland Ironstone Museum tomorrow, it should be a great event!
**Upcoming Events**

Cobweb Orchestra Italian Music Day with Judith Thompson

Spend a day with Billingham group conductor Judith Thompson exploring music from or inspired by Italy. Play compositions by Rossini, Mendelssohn, Morricone and Tchaikovsky (plus a few surprises) and brush up on Italian terminology as you go along.
All the music featured will be accessible to players of all levels and experience. The day will finish with an informal presentation for friends and family at 6pm.
There’s no enrolment form for this one, please enrol directly at Sage Gateshead here http://sagegateshead.com/event/cobweb-orchestra35680/ or by calling 0191 443 4661.
Please do let me know that you’re coming though so we can bring the right amount of music!
Cobweb Underground Orchestra
Sunday 20th September
Honister Slate Mine, Keswick
– PLACES STILL AVAILABLE, PARTICULARLY LOWER STRINGS!

http://www.cobweborchestra.org.uk/events/event.php?id=255
If you heard about the York Bunker or Cleveland concerts and wanted to participate but couldn’t – you now have another opportunity to play as part of our Underground Orchestra series. This time we are at the Honister Slate Mine near Keswick – http://www.honister.com/ on Sunday 20th September.
We intend this to be a full symphony orchestra performance and require lots of players with a full range of instruments, but we are also constrained by the size of the stage which is being specially constructed for us and may have to limit some sections of the orchestra. So please sign up quickly.
There will be an afternoon rehearsal on the day and the performance is in the evening, exact timings to be confirmed.
**Date for your diary**
The Cobwebs AGM and 20th Anniversary Party will be now on SUNDAY 27 SEPTEMBER not the Saturday as previously mentioned. More information will be given out about it and members will be sent the agenda in due course. We will be having a study day attached to it, but for those just wanting to attend the AGM it will be at 1pm. The day will once again take place at Eldon Community Centre.
That’s all for now, I am on holiday for the next week so please bear with me answering your emails – I’ll get back to you as soon as I’m back.
Best wishes,
Lorna
