Cobweb News 2.2.18

What an ending to the month of symphonies! A huge thanks and welcome to Johann von Stuckenbruck for covering as Jonathan Bloxham was indisposed. I’ve heard that Johann did a fantastic job guiding you through the Symphony with great skill, enthusiasm and good humour – and Sue thought you rose to the challenge very well indeed! There are’ lots of photos on Facebook, do check them out by clicking the Facebook icon at the bottom of this email.

In this weeks Cobweb News:
– Anyone can be a soloist
– Bowes Museum concert
– The Big Play!

Anyone Can be a Soloist – more players of the orchestra required!
St. John’s Methodist Church, Whitley Bay, NE26 3ND
Saturday 10th February , 11-4pm
Pay What You Think It’s Worth

All welcome!
The extremely exciting and varied programme for the day will include:
Weber Clarinet Concerto,
Mozart “Andante in C” for flute and orchestra,
‘La Mer’,
Faure Elegy for cello and orchestra,
Mozart Clarinet Concerto,
Mozart Piano concertos and some exciting new compositions!

Please come and support these soloists in what looks to be a brilliant day in Whitley Bay.
We will enjoy a shared lunch on this day so please do contribute if you would like to join us.

Even though there’s no enrolment form as such, please let us know if you’re coming as soon as possible because we are having to provide a huge number of parts (9 pieces with between 8 and 15 parts per piece) and need to know how many of each instrumental part we need in advance – time is very tight on these days and we don’t want to lose any trying to produce extra parts! Thank you!

Cobweb Orchestra in Concert at Bowes Museum
Sunday 25th February

Rehearsal: 10 am – 1 pm.
Performance: 2 – 3.30 pm.

We will need a decent sized orchestra for this afternoon concert of music by (amongst others) Faure, Elgar, Saint-Saens and Delibes. All players are welcome, but the space we have to play in is not large and we need a balanced orchestra, so the size of some sections might have to be limited.
**The event will be recorded and turned into a film by members of the Newcastle Amateur Film and Video Club. The film will be for sale once it has been edited.**

For more information and to sign up, please complete the enrollment form here and return it to me as soon as possible.

The Cobweb Orchestra Big Play
Saturday 17th March, 10-6pm
Dipton Community Centre, Front Street, Dipton, Stanley, DH9 9DR
Pay What You Think It’s Worth

Join us for our annual Big Play, 10-6pm on Saturday 17th March. This years theme is “IN C” and will include (amongst many others) the following pieces:
Beethoven Symphony no. 1
Bizet in symphony in C
Wranitzky Symphony in C minor
Mozart Overture to “Il Seraglio”.

We hope you can all join us for this amazing event bringing all our groups and group leaders together (yes, they will ALL be there!) Again, there’s no enrollment form, but please just let me know as soon as possible if you’re coming along so we can know how much music to provide.

Do keep an eye on the website, we’ve secured 2 amazing looking study days with incredible soloists later on this year – get them in your diaries now! That’s all for this week, enjoy a weekend off (unless you’re CCO!) and I look forward to seeing many of you next Saturday supporting our wonderfully brave soloists!

Best wishes,
