Upcoming Events:

5th August: Haydn Symphonies Project – No. 5 – Sign up fast!
Dipton Community Centre, DH9 9DR
Members £9, Non Members £12
**I’m sorry for the lateness of this enrollment form, it’s only 2 weeks away so sign up fast!**
The Journey through Haydn’s symphonies continues on Saturday 5 August 2017 at Dipton Community Centre 2.00pm to 6.00pm. This, our 5th session and Haydn is now employed by Prince Paul Anton Esterhazy as the Assistant Capellmeister at the palace at Eisenstadt.
We will be looking at symphonies 36,9,108 ‘B’, 14,12,40 &16.
These were all written for strings with oboes and horns (although bassoons are likely to have also played cello parts and will be very welcome at this session).
As a compromise between trying to retain an authentic orchestra, and making the sessions available to more players to participate the following additional players are also welcome to participate in this session:-
Flutes – to double oboe parts
Clarinets – to play oboe parts (in C) but no transposed parts will be provided.
After this session we will have looked at 28 of the symphonies (just over ¼). Only 78 to go!

12th August: Sage Gateshead Study Day
1.30 – 7pm
Sage Gateshead, NE8 2JR
This is a day for musicians who have some experience of playing in an orchestra, but do not consider themselves experts. Andy Jackson will conduct works ranging from the well known to the obscure and from Baroque to modern.
Some of the music is specially arranged for amateur players, and some will be played as the composers such as Beethoven, Bizet and Elgar originally intended.
There will be an informal presentation for friends and family at 6pm.
To participate in the day, please book directly with Sage Gateshead Box Office on 0191 443 4661 or Sage Gateshead Website

20th August: Gibside Chapel performance
Gibside Chapel, Rowlands Gill, Gateshead, Tyne & Wear, NE16 6BG
Enrollment form here
Join Andy Jackson when The Cobweb Orchestra will perform English Georgian Music in the beautiful National Trust Gibside Chapel. Perfect for a Summer’s Day.
Rehearsal: 11 am to 1 pm on the day
Concert: 2 – 3.30pm
Gibside are delighted to welcome the award winning Cobweb Orchestra who will present a programme which combines music from the Georgian era with works from the English pastoral tradition. Listen to beautiful pieces by Handel, Elgar, Avison and others in the stunning setting of Gibside Chapel.
Numbers will have to be limited due to the size of the venue, so please enroll quickly. As usual, we’ll try to select a balanced orchestra from those who are available. Please don’t think “there’ll be loads of clarinets/horns/cellos so I’ll leave it to someone else”. If everyone did that, we’d never manage to put together an orchestra at all.
The repertoire will, again, be English, but this time focusing on music appropriate to the Georgian venue: Avison, Handel, Boyce, Arne, etc. and we’ll be using Cobwebbed versions that include the instruments those composers didn’t write for.
Please don’t forget to bring a music stand.
I can’t be at this event so I would appreciate payment in advance by cheque or BACS where possible!

That’s all for this week, keep sending those forms!
Best wishes,
Event Co-ordinator, Cobweb Orchestra
