Cobweb News 26: 15.10.14

Dear all,
Just a quick one this week:
Rachmaninov Symphonic Dances with Mark Edwards
11-4.30pm, Haxby Memorial Hall, Haxby
Members: £10.00
Non Members: £13.00
Travelling from the north to Haxby is easy by car and public transport. Haxby is north of York, just off the York ring road and readily accessible from the A19 or A59 – with access to theA1(M). Trains between York and the north are frequent and rapid. Bus service no 1 runs from the station directly to Haxby village – a 10-15 minute journey and then simply cross the road to the Memorial Hall.
The music is written for a pretty large range of instrumental parts, and we could really do with some significant reinforcement in some areas – especially woodwind, brass, and percussion. There is also a part for a piano player – anyone out there fancy this? This isn’t to say that strings wouldn’t be very welcome also – as they would be! The music isn’t all that straightforward, and greater support here would also be much appreciated. Please remember that you can download your own parts here:,_Op.45_(Rachmaninoff,_Sergei)
We are looking forward to a shared lunch, feel free to contribute not forgetting the food hygiene guidelines.
Finally, don’t forget your music stand!
**Upcoming Events**
Sunday 26th October, Rockcliffe Centre, Rockcliffe, Carlisle, CA6 4AA
Beethoven Symphony No. 1 – Jonathan Bloxham
Rehearsal 1-5pm, Concert 6pm
Members of the Cobweb Orchestra £ 10.00
Non-members £ 13.00
Join us for an exciting afternoon rehearsal of Beethoven Symphony No. 1 with conductor Jonathan Bloxham. We haven’t been advertising this event for long and it might not have crossed your radar yet, but I know how many of you enjoyed working with Jonathan last year playing the Sibelius Violin Concerto and Elgar’s Symphony no. 1, and it would be great if we could produce an appropriately sized and shaped orchestra for Beethoven’s innovative 1st symphony.
Even if you can’t make the rehearsal, do consider going to the informal (and FREE) concert in the evening and having the chance of hearing him play Bach’s sublime 1st cello suite as well as conducting the Beethoven. Enrolment form and poster are available on the event webpage. Please distribute the poster as much as you can! Don’t forget a music stand!
**SG Concert 16th November**
We will be in touch about the confirmed orchestra next week. We now have a poster made for this concert which is available on the event webpage. Please feel free to distribute to anyone and everyone!
**Underground Orchestra**
Don’t forget the 1st manifestation of the Underground Orchestra is on Wednesday 22nd October at Victoria Tunnel. There are only a couple of tickets left, your last chance to experience a unique event! Contact Sheila Ryan for tickets or more information on
Looking forward to seeing many of you on Sunday!
Best wishes,
