From Peter:
The Haydn Project moves west for Session 7 at Newbiggin on Lune on 3 March 2018 11.00am to 4.00pm.
This session will be a bit of a “horn fest” as we discover Haydn experimenting with the use of 4 horns in the orchestra.

The symphonies we will be looking at which were written between 1763 and 1767 include 2 famous named symphonies and are numbers 13, 30 (Alleluia), 31 (Hornsignal), 39 and 72.  4 of these use 4 horns.
Other unusual features of this batch of symphonies are the use of a flute in 4 of the symphonies, and timps in 2 of the symphonies.
3 of the symphonies (13, 31 & 72) also have concertante parts in some movements featuring solo violin, solo cello, solo double bass, solo flute and solo bassoon.
The last movement of symphonies 31 & 72 is a theme and variations.

Previous sessions have been predominantly strings, horns (2) and oboes.  This time we need additional horns, flutes, bassoons and timps.
Parts for 13, 30, 31 & 72 (which include all of the concertante parts) are available on IMSLP.        http://imslp.org/wiki/Category:Haydn%2C_Joseph.

We do need players (volunteers preferably) for the concertante parts.  Please let me know if you would like to have a go as soon as possible.  I can then make sure that you have managed to access the parts before we meet. This should be a great session with an enlarged orchestra and I look forward to seeing players for the additional parts and volunteers for the concertante parts.
Peter”

I can’t be at this event, so please can you pay by BACS or send me a cheque?
Thanks!
