Cobweb News 26 – 2013

Dear All,
The Cobweb Cabaret Ensemble performed at Brinkburn Priory on Saturday afternoon. What a wonderful venue. If you’d like to experience playing at Brinkburn do enrol for the Cobweb Orchestra Concert on Saturday 10th August. More details are available on the website and the enrolment form can be downloaded from there.

A correction . . .
Last week I put the wrong date for the Cobweb AGM. The correct date is Saturday 14th September. The AGM is a free event but please fill in the enrolment form and post/email to me, so that we know what sort of orchestra we’ll have for Brahms Symphony No. 3. You can also send your apologies on this form if you are unable to attend.
For more details please see the event webpage
Coming up . . .
Saturday 3rd August – West Side Story with Jonathan Brigg
Northern Rock Foundation Hall, Sage Gateshead – 1.30-7.00pm

Thank you to all who have let me know that you have bought your ticket for this event or intend coming and will purchase your ticket on the day. So far we have the makings of a rather peculiar orchestra. We have no violas or cellos, oboes, bassoons or trombones and still have plenty of room in all other sections. Don’t miss out on a great day, with a superb conductor, at probably the best venue we get to play in.

Two Concerts in the autumn
We have two concerts coming up, one in September and the other in November. I know that sounds a long way off but we thought we’d send out enrolment forms now in the hopes that you will enrol and commit to one or both events. We’ll then know much earlier than usual what sort of orchestra we will have for each event.
The orchestra for both concerts will be limited in size due to the space available at the venues so enrol early to avoid disappointment.
Saturday 28th September –Trinity Church, Ashington, Northumberland
Rehearsal: 2.00 – 6.00pm
Concert: 7.30pm

This concert will feature 5 of our regular Cobweb Orchestra players in works for solo/instruments and orchestra as well as two guest soloists. Steph with whom we’ve played the Payne Saxophone Concerto and Mary who came to Sedbergh to sing Strauss’ Four Last Songs are joining us. Do come and support your colleagues and our two guests. It would be lovely to be able to accompany them with a full and enthusiastic orchestra.
For more details please see the event webpage
Sunday 17th November – Hall 2, Sage Gateshead with Alice Jones (cello)
Rehearsal: 1.30 – 5.30pm
Concert: 7.15pm

We are delighted that Alice is coming to play the Dvorak Cello Concerto for this concert, which is taking place in one of our favourite venues. Alice was a cellist with Cobwebs a few years ago, before heading to Music College in London to further her studies. We are performing three powerful and moving works from the romantic era in a typical concert programme of overture: Borodin’s Prince Igor, concerto: Dvorak’s Cello Concerto and symphony: Cesar Franck’s Symphony in D minor.
For more details please see the event webpage
Two fantastic concerts to look forward to in the autumn term. . . do check your diaries to see if you are free. Remember that places will be limited at both Ashington and the Sage Gateshead so post/email your enrolment form(s) straight away to avoid disappointment.
That’s it for this week. Enjoy the summer weather that has at last arrived.
