Cobweb News 27 – 2013

Dear All,
A rare occurence happened on the weekend 20th/21st July . . . there WASN’T a Cobweb event! I do hope no one suffered from withdrawal symptoms.
Last night (Sunday 28th) the newly formed Cobweb Chamber Orchestra gave its inaugural concert at St. Oswald’s Church, Ravenstonedale. It was a great event with an appreciative audience who kindly donated £347.30 that will be shared between the church and the Cobweb Orchestra.
Huge thanks must go to Richard Best and Caroline and David Morris (and other helpers) who made and put out roadside signs, brought all the chairs from the school, moved pews so that we had a space to play in, organised the refreshments in the interval . . . the list is endless and I can’t thank them enough for the commitment and support they give the Cobweb Orchestra.
Now if you can’t face a summer of no playing there are a couple of events coming up . . .
Saturday 3rd August – West Side Story Study Day with Jonathan Brigg
Northern Rock Foundation Hall, Sage Gateshead
1.30 – 7.00pm (Informal play through at 6.00pm, free for family, friends and anyone who happens to be passing)

We’ve a super and huge orchestra coming together BUT there are still gaps. We only have 1 viola and 3 celli, 1 bassoon, 1 trumpet, and no trombones. We could also do with another 4 percussionists and a pianist. There is still room in all other sections too.
We shall spend the day playing Bernstein’s own stunningly orchestrated Symphonic Dances and Jack Mason’s arrangements of popular songs from the show.
There is more information about this event, and how to enrol for it, on the website http://www.cobweborchestra.org.uk/events/ Don’t forget to drop me an email if you intend coming but will be paying on the day.
Saturday 10th August – Concert at Brinkburn Priory
Brinkburn Priory, Morpeth, NE65 8AR
Rehearsal: 11.00am – 1.00pm
Concert: 2.00 – 4.00pm

Don’t miss this opportunity to play in the beautiful 12th century church of the Augustinian priory. It really is a rather special performance venue. We still have space for all instruments; violas, cellos, a double bass, another oboe and trumpet would be very much appreciated.
The enrolment form can be downloaded from the website.
Two Concerts in the autumn
Saturday 28th September – Trinity Church, Ashington, Northumberland
Sunday 17th November – Hall 2, Sage Gateshead.

A gentle reminder about our 2 concerts in September and November as space is limited and both are filling up. Do sign up soon to avoid disappointment, if you want to play in either of these concerts. Enrolment forms for both these concerts can be downloaded from the website.
That’s all for this week. Next week have your diaries to hand as there will be an amazing list of events that are already arranged for the autumn term. As well as the two concerts mentioned above, we’ve a fabulous selection of study days.
Have a great week.
Sue
