Cobweb News 28 – 2013

Dear All,
WOW what a day we had at the Sage Gateshead on Saturday. A huge orchestra of just short of 70 players gathered to spend many hours working on Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story and Jack Mason’s Selection of Songs for Orchestra. The Symphonic Dances were very hard but under the brilliant conducting and careful guidance of Jonathan Brigg we got through them. It was quite an achievement. We even had a large audience for the play through at the end of the day.
Sad News
Very sadly Alan Jones, husband of our wonderful librarian Liz Carlile died peacefully on Sunday afternoon, surrounded by his family. There will be a private funeral for family only, and then in early September there will be a memorial service to celebrate Alan’s life.
Coming up . . . our last event for the season . . .
Saturday 10th August – Concert at Brinkburn Priory
Rehearsal: 11.00am – 1.00pm
Concert: 2.00pm – 4.00pm

We have a super orchestra coming together for this final event but there is still room for more players if anyone is tempted to come and play in the wonderful acoustics of Brinkburn Priory. We could do with more strings, violas and cellos in particular, and a double bass would be greatly appreciated.
More details about this event can be found on the event webpage
If you would like to play and haven’t already enrolled please send me an email so that I can make sure we have enough music for everyone.
NB – there are some serious road works to contend with for anyone travelling from the south to Brinkburn on Saturday. The A1 has road works around Gateshead and there may be a 4-mile stretch of road works on the A697. Please allow plenty of time to get to Brinkburn as we only have a short rehearsal before the performance.
