Cobweb News 30 – 2013

Dear All,
I do hope everyone has enjoyed the (long overdue) summer and have stocked up on vitamin D to see you through the winter.
A group of us have just returned from the bi-annual Cobweb Orchestra trip to Tuscany. We had a fabulous week (quite possibly the best yet) with great food, wine, sunshine and of course wonderful music. We played two super concerts at the end of the week, one in a new venue, St Agostino church in San Gimignano, where we received a standing ovation!

I’m delighted to say that we have enough players to make a small orchestra and will perform two short pieces – Menuet & Trio, Mozart Symphony No. 35 “Haffner” and the 2nd Mov from Abdelazer, Purcell/Jackson. We’ll also accompany the choir in “This Little Light of Mine”.
Please can you arrive at the church at 11.30pm so that we can have a very quick run through the pieces. Please wear the usual Cobweb concert dress and bring a music stand.
More players are welcome to come and join us but please do let me know by email no later than Friday evening –

Music Arranging Course
During the next few months the C&A Group is holding a course in music arranging. This will be focussed on collectively producing a piece of music for the Cobweb library. The course will be led by Lizelle Kirby, leader of the Morpeth Cobweb Orchestra. The first meeting will be in Killingworth in the afternoon of Saturday 21st September, and 3 further sessions will be held during November – January. There will be a small fee of £5 for attendance at each session.
7 existing members of the C&A Group have already enlisted for the course. We would welcome a few more people on the course, so even if you are not a C&A Group member but would be interested in attending, please contact Andrew Cottrell as soon as possible for more details (e-mail:
That’s all for this week. Not long now until our 8 groups start up with their weekly rehearsals.
