Cobweb News 32 -2013

Dear All,
It’s lovely to see old faces back at rehearsals again and to meet new people who have taken the plunge and joined one of our eight Cobweb Orchestras.
Coming Up . . .
Saturday 14th September – The Cobweb Orchestra AGM/Brahms Symphony No.3
Conductor – Jon Brigg (from our York Cobweb Orchestra)
2.00 – 6.00pm, Dipton Community Centre

We’ve a super orchestra/gathering for the AGM but there is of course still room in any section of the orchestra since we are not restricted in the number of players we can take. If you would like to join us, do drop me an email. Similarly, if you wish to give your apologies, email me at
The timetable for the afternoon is:
2.00 – 3.30pm Work on Brahms 3
3.30 – 4.30pm AGM
4.30 – 5.00pm Shared Tea
5.00 – 6.00pm An informal performance of Brahms 3
Don’t forget to bring:
A small contribution for the shared tea (please be aware of our food hygiene guidelines –
A music stand.
Saturday 28th September – The Cobweb Orchestra in Concert
Trinity Church, Ashington NE63 8RN
Rehearsal: 2.00 – 6.00pm
Concert: 7.30pm

What has happened to all our violinists and cellists? Is there a problem with going to Ashington?
We need you . . . please enrol.

This concert features some of our very best players as soloists, along with two guest soloists. And if that isn’t enough to tempt you, we’re ending the concert with Beethoven’s fabulous Symphony No. 8. How can you stay away? There is still space in all sections of the orchestra except oboes and clarinets, but we really do need more violins and cellos.

Andy Jackson will conduct this study day, which will be spent looking at the delightful 5th Symphony by Schubert. Although this work was scored for just 1 flute, 2 oboes, 2 bassoons, 2 horns and strings we will be using a great version that includes all instruments of the modern orchestra.
