Cobweb News 33 -2013

Dear All,
The Cobweb Orchestra reaps another award . . .
A few months ago, thanks to the encouragement of Sue Hoggett (clarinet with the York group), we applied to a Making Music scheme “Adopt a Composer” and I’m delighted to say that out of a large number of organisations that applied The Cobweb Orchestra has been successful.
We have a young and very enthusiastic composer, Michael Betteridge, a graduate from the Royal Northern College of Music, who will work with us for a year. Michael is very interested in some of the things we do (flashmobs, music theatre) and is keen to get music out to the public, in ways other than just through the concert hall.
The first opportunity for everyone to meet Michael will be at the Cockermouth Study Day on 6th October. Please do come to meet Michael then if you possibly can.
The AGM . . .
We had a very concise and successful AGM on Saturday, in amongst playing Brahms’ 3rd Symphony. Thank you to everyone who came – I think that was probably our biggest turnout ever at an AGM. Thanks also to Jonathan Brigg who made a magnificent job working on the symphony and guiding us through the play through at the end of the afternoon.
Coming up . . .
Saturday 12th October – Schumann Symphony No. 4 Study Day with Chris Griffiths
Eldon Community Centre, Bishop Auckland
11.00am – 4.00pm

Over the last couple of years Chris has been conducting study days with the aim of looking at all 4 of the Schumann Symphonies and this is our final one, the 4th Symphony. It’s been a great journey so far, getting to know these wonderful symphonies.
Do come and join us for what will be a fantastic day.
