Cobweb News 35 – 2013

Dear All,
Well what an amazing concert the Cobweb Orchestra put on at Trinity Church, Ashington on Saturday. Our five soloists were superb and the orchestra accompanied them all really well. We had a small but enthusiastic audience and the whole atmosphere throughout the evening was terrific. The joke about the timps being appropriately called kettle drums so that you could have a cup of tea while they were being retuned had the audience laughing out loud.
Following on from the concert, we’ve had a couple of emails that not only sum up how great Saturday was, but also how wonderful an organisation The Cobweb Orchestra is . . .
I was going to email anyway to say how much I enjoyed the Ashington concert. It was fun. And the soloists were all so varied and exciting.
What struck though was how I was playing probably better than I ever remember playing, with lightness of touch and fluency and a sense of freedom. I am sure the Cobweb orchestras have a special magic to bring the best out of their players.

I just thought I would let you know how much Allen enjoyed the concert on Sat. night
He thoroughly enjoyed the whole programme, which had so much variety in it with the super soloists as well as the orchestra.
I too enjoyed the day playing such lovely music despite the intense concentration required for all the sight-reading!

Coming up . . .
Sunday 6th October – Schubert 5 Study Day with Andy Jackson
2.00 – 6.00pm
Christ Church, Cockermouth

I’m delighted to say that we have a rather grand orchestra for this study day but there is still plenty of room for any more players who are out there and dithering! Some more cellists and a double bass would be especially welcome. Do email me if you would like to join us –
Saturday 12th October – Schumann 4 Study Day with Chris Griffiths
11.00am – 4.00pm
Eldon Community Centre, Bishop Auckland

An event not to be missed . . . Chris Griffiths will take us through the last of Schumann’s 4 symphonies. We’ve had great study days so far with Chris, looking at symphonies 1, 2 and 3 and no doubt this final study day will be super too. We need a good-sized orchestra to do this work justice so please do send in your enrolment form. For further details please see the event webpage
That will do for this week.
