Cobweb News 39 – 2013

Dear All,
We had a fantastic study day on Sunday playing Tchaikovsky’s 6th Symphony with Richard Haworth. I’ve had lots of feedback from people saying how much they enjoyed the day and how much they learnt from Richard. Many of the string players were pleased with the tips they were given on how to play certain passages, where to put the bow, which part of the bow to use etc. We all worked hard and achieved some very good results. Richard enjoyed the day very much indeed and said it was lovely to conduct a friendly group that was up for a bit of work and pushing. Well done everyone who came.
All our groups are on half term this week but if you’d like to still do something musical why not come to Worsall Village Hall on Friday 1st November, 7.30pm for 8.00pm and enjoy an evening of entertainment from The Cobweb Cabaret Ensemble. More details are available under the new “Performances” tab on our website www.cobweborchestra.org.uk. The flier for this performance is attached.
Lost property . . .
I gained a rather nice bowl of apples and a tin with a lemon cake and a walnut cake in, from Dipton on Sunday. Please do get in touch by emailing me events@cobweborchestra.org.uk if you would like the above items back.
Please Note . . .
Saturday 23rd November – Stravinsky Rite of Spring Study Day
Northern Rock Foundation Hall, Sage Gateshead

We normally have our Sage study days from 1.30 – 7.00pm, however the Sage events brochure, the Sage website and the tickets for this event have the start time as 12noon. We will therefore start at 12noon and have a 45-minute session followed by a lunch break until 1.30pm. The study day still finishes at 7.00pm with the usual informal play through at 6.00pm which is free to family, friends, those passing by etc.
Coming up . . .
Sunday 3rd November – Dvorak Cello Concerto Study Day with Alice Jones and Andy Jackson
2.00 – 6.00pm
Wylam Institute

Viola players where are you? We’ve only got 1 enrolled so far and could do with some more to balance out the large cello section. We also need a 2nd flute, a 2nd oboe, and a 1st bassoon and 3 trombones. It would be lovely to have a complete orchestra to support Alice, our great soloist.
There is still room in all other sections not mentioned so do enrol if you are able to come. More information and the enrolment form are available from the event webpage

And definitely finally . . . a message from Howard Rocke, Chairman of The Cobweb Orchestra Trustees.
Dear Cobweb Orchestra supporter,
It is some years since we set up a record of skills that we could draw on as necessary. This has proved a very useful resource so the trustees have decided to update the record.
The Cobweb Orchestra Skills Audit Form
Could you have a look at the attached form and return to me when completed.
Thanking you in anticipation.
Howard Rocke.
(Chair of Trustees)
That’s all for this week. Have a terrific half term.
Sue
