Cobweb News

We have a few events coming up that we hope will help you to remain positive during this difficult time. You’re all welcome to any event, even if you haven’t joined us before. Thank you for all your responses to the ideas we set out last week, it’s great to see so many of you getting involved.

In this week’s Cobweb News
A concert from London – join in or listen to Trio Taliesin – TOMORROW NIGHT!
Cobweb Virtual Concert Party – this weekend!
A New Cobweb Group

A concert from London – join in or listen to Trio Taliesin.
Thursday 5th November, 6pm – TOMORROW!

This is a live edition of our bi-weekly Musical Bookclub where, instead of playing along to a recording, we play along to Tara Clifford (Piano), Kirsten Wilson (Violin) and Alice Jones (Cello) as they perform Beethoven’s Triple Concerto via Zoom.
The orchestral parts will be played on a second piano by Catherine Herriott so we have a choice of joining in with our own orchestral parts (whilst on mute) or sitting back and enjoying the performance.”

To download your parts, please click here:
The price is £5 to cover the costs and if participants wish to make a further donation, it will be given in full to Trio Taliesin. This gives us all a chance to support young professional musicians whose incomes have been severely affected by the covid-19 pandemic.

Cobweb Virtual Concert Party
Saturday 7th November, 7pm

After the amazing success of the last few concert parties, we’ll be hosting another on Saturday 7th November. At this event, we’ll be premiering our CVO 4 piece, and we have a few performers, but there’s room for another if you are still keen! For those of you who prefer to be in the audience, please do still enrol and select ‘audience’ so that you can be sent the Zoom link for the event on Friday.

A New Cobweb Group – Music Theory Group
Thursdays between 10.30 and 11.10 am
from the 12th November to 17th December

Many thanks for all the interest expressed in the proposals put forward by the Playing at Home group in last week’s Cobweb News.

One idea that we can progress with immediately is the Music Theory Group as we already have a tutor in the person of trumpet/horn/guitar player Richard Stamp, who will guide the group through the intricacies of time signatures, key signatures, clefs, keys, major/minor, pitch, tension and release, chords, passing notes, inversions, enharmonics, modulations, transposition, expressions marks and finally… cadences.

This is what Richard says about the sessions. “The syllabus will be based on ABRSM Grade 5-ish. I would try to chair a discussion rather than be didactic but would attempt to keep to the the subject under discussion”

The group will meet on Zoom on Thursdays between 10.30 and 11.10 am from the 12th November to 17th December and Richard will send out invitations to those who enrol. If you would like to join the group, click here to register. Places will be reserved on a strictly “first come” basis, but if you responded to the notice last week’s Cobweb News, you’re already on the list and don’t need to re-register.

There will be no charge for the sessions, but, as ever, donations will be welcome to help keep Cobwebs afloat during these challenging times.
To make a donation, simply send a BACS transaction using the following details:
A/c: 65560297 Sort Code: 08-92-99 Reference: “THEORY/your surname”.

Finally, here’s a little video which might bring a smile to your face…
