Cobweb News 5 – 2013

Dear All,
We had the most amazing day at The Sage Gateshead on Saturday, working on Kurt Weill’s 2nd Symphony with Anthony Sargeant. The strings enjoyed 3 hours of sectionals with Tristan Gurney (ex Northern Sinfonia 1st violinist, now principal violin of the Edinburgh Quartet) while Anthony tutored the winds. All the hard work put in during the day was very apparent in the excellent play through at the end. Well done and thanks to everyone who attended.
Mistake on the enrolment form for the Bruch/Schumann concert in Carlisle
Many apologies for the error made on the form. The date of this event is 23rd February as stated on the information sheet and not 10th February, which is at the top of the form. A correct version of the enrolment form is available on the website for those of you who haven’t got around to signing up yet.
Coming up . . .
Mozart/Chopin/Dvorak Concert, Sunday 10th February
Hall 2, The Sage Gateshead

We have a large orchestra for this event and may not be allowed, for safety reasons, to take any more players. If you were hoping to take part please get in touch with me before sending any enrolment forms and cheques or paying by BACs.
The 3rd Rite of Spring Study Day – Saturday 16th February, 11am – 4pm
Haxby Memorial Hall, York

We’ve a good-sized orchestra for this event but there is plenty of room for lots more players in all sections. This is the 2nd to last study day so don’t miss out . . . come and have a go at a great work. And don’t forget that you can have a deliciously filling fund-raising lunch for just £5 too.
Half term happenings . . .
This year the February half term is staggered over two weeks but some of our groups are meeting during the holiday. If you’re orchestra isn’t meeting, why not go and play with a different one for a change. It would be lovely for our new York orchestra to meet some of our regular players from other groups. And you’d get to play in their super new venue, The Steiner School.
