Cobweb News 6 – 12.03.14

Dear All,
We had a super Schubert 5 study day in Morpeth on Sunday, with amazing progress made by an orchestra of 42 players. Schubert’s 5th Symphony is such a delightful work and many people went away with a smile on their face, whistling/humming the great tunes.
Coming up . . .
Our next Cobweb Orchestra event is the “not to be missed” Sedbergh Residential . . .
Friday 4th – Sunday 6th April – The Sedbergh Residential.
Sedbergh School
Cumbria LA10 5BY

Our 8th visit to Sedbergh School is nearly here and it’s time to finalise bookings for those of you who have made a preliminary booking. If you haven’t already booked and would like to join us, there is still space and we’d love to see you for what is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the Cobweb Orchestra’s year. The main work will be Mahler’s fabulous 5th Symphony.
The school have asked for final numbers by Wednesday 19th March, so I would appreciate a quick return of forms and payment. Please see the event webpage for the final booking form
Hot on the heels of the Sedbergh Residential is our annual BIG PLAY . . .
Monday 21st April – The BIG PLAY
Middlesbrough Town Hall
11am – 7.00pm

Since this is our 4th BIG PLAY the theme for this year is the “4th”. Each of our eight rehearsal groups is busy preparing a work that has something to do with the 4th – a 4th symphony perhaps, or the 4th composition, or the 4th movement . . . It would be lovely to see all the groups well represented at Middlesbrough but this event is open to all, whether you play with a group or not. Do put it in your diaries. It’s a wonderful way to spend a Bank Holiday Monday – making superb music with lots of friends.
Look out for the enrolment form, which will be out next week.
Finally for April . . .
Saturday 25th April – A Sibelius Study Day with Robin Osterley – Sage Gateshead
Northern Rock Foundation Hall, Sage Gateshead
1.30 – 7.00pm

Conductor and former Chief Executive of Making Music, Robin Osterley will lead players of all levels of experience in an exploration of some of Sibelius’s best loved works – Finlandia and the Symphony No. 1.
This event must be booked through the Sage Gateshead. Please have a look at the website for more details
That’s all for this week.
