Cobweb News 7: 04.03.15

Dear all,
There’s lots of information this week – so please do read down to the bottom!
** The Cobweb Auction **
You should have received the catalogue and web address to find the latest news on the Cobweb Auction, please do spread the word so we can raise as much as possible for Cobweb Orchestra. See the webpage below:
** The Consett group have found a permanent home! **
It’s Dipton Community Centre (DH9 9DR). Many of you will know this excellent venue as we’ve used it often for weekend events, and it’s been our preferred option for Thursday nights for years. However, we were never able to use it because a Kickboxing group had a regular booking there.
Anyway, it seems that they have kicked and boxed their last and we can now fill the hall with the strains of Beethoven, Rossini and Saint-Saens (and a few surprises) in the coming weeks.
So, they are moving there with immediate effect, starting on 5th March.
**Upcoming Events**
Cobweb Orchestra in Concert – Jon Brigg
Sunday 8th March, Rehearsal 2-5.30, Concert 6.30pm
The Chapel, York St. John University Campus,
Lord Mayor’s Walk, York YO31 7EX
Members: £10.00
Non-Members: £13.00
Students in Full time Education: half the above prices
We warmly welcome you to come and join in a concert performance of Schubert’s Symphony No.4, composed when Schubert was only 19 years old and not premiered until more than two decades after his death, and Peter Warlock’s popular Capriol Suite, based on tunes in Thoinot Arbeau’s Orchésographie, a manual of Renaissance dances. Students from York St. John University will also be performing, so there will also be a chance to sit back and listen!
All Cobweb players are welcome to perform in this concert: Jon is a charismatic conductor and Schubert’s “Tragic” is a truly great work, but not so difficult that you can’t be part of a good performance on one rehearsal. Please get in touch if you are interested, we do still have the Cobweb Car Sharing System so it may be possible that people can travel together.
Normal concert dress applies (black bottoms, white top and a waistcoat and/or neckwear) and once again, please bring a music stand.
Enrolment form and Concert poster are available on the event webpage – please do spread the word!

Also featuring the Coweb Auction, where you will have the chance to bid for special lots such as string quartet performances and original artworks.

We also need lots of volunteers as usual for this event. I sadly cannot be there so I’m looking for people to collect money, do the lunches, top up the teas, set up, clear away, you name it! If anyone thinks they can lend a hand please do let me know.
Enrolment form is available on the event webpage.
