Cobweb News 8 – 26.3.14

Dear All,
Three Cobweb Orchestra events took place over the last weekend – the Chamber Orchestra had a successful rehearsal in preparation for their concert in the Music Room, Preston Park Museum, the Cabaret ensemble entertained a full house at Middlesbrough Town Hall and the Tebay Cobweb Orchestra ran a super study day on Tchaikovsky’s 2nd Symphony in Kendal. Below is a brief report about the study day from Doug Dawson.
On Sunday over forty players assembled in the Kirkland Hall in Kendal to play Tchaikovsky’s inspiring second symphony under the cheerful leadership of Peter Crompton. This was organised as a fundraiser for the Tebay group. It was very good to see many players with no previous involvement with Cobwebs, all of whom professed to have had a wonderful day. Every instrument in the line-up was covered. The very idea of playing such a complex work in a four-hour session seemed amazing, but we did it, thanks to Peter’s encouragement, and of course to the delicious cakes provided by the Tebay members.
Our next event is . . .
Friday 4th – Sunday 6th April – The Sedbergh Residential

We have an orchestra of over 60 players but there is still room for more if anyone is feeling inspired to come and play Mahler 5 (how can you not be inspired by such a great symphony?)
