Ensembles Weekend 18th-19th September 2010

The Ensembles Weekends are organised and led by some of dedicated and enthusiastic players to give players the opportunity to play in smaller ensembles, explore different repertoire and discuss the peculiarities of their particular instruments.

Martin plans to do the Telemann Concerto for 2 violas and depending on the number of players would like to also like to have a look at St Paul’s Suite by Holst and John Rutter’s Suite for strings.

Lee is expecting to form small groups from beginners through experienced players to give everyone a chance to stretch their playing. By popular demand, Gabrielli is certainly on the list for the whole group to play together.

Do please also bring any group music you may have to share on the day.

Before: Elizabeth lives 15 minutes away from Tebay near Kirby Stephen and has very kindly offered to provide a pre-session soup and roll lunch for anyone travelling a long way. Please let Elizabeth know in advance if you’d like to take up this offer so she can give you directions and most importantly so she knows how much soup to make!

During: There will be hot drinks available

After: If you would like a quick bite before returning home, please feel free to bring something for a quick sharing meal.

Sue has 3 pieces for oboes, cors and bassoons planned for the session:

– Mozart’s Fantasia in F

– Strauss’s Perpetuum Mobile

– James Paisible’s Mr. Peasable’s Ayres in the Comedy call’d the Humors of Sir John Falstaf

There will also be music available to cater for most combinations of instruments, just in-case the full range of double reeds is not available to play the pieces Sue has prepared.
