Cobweb Orchestra Musical Book Club

3rd December 2020 @ 6:00 pm
Lorna Wright

Thurs 3 Dec 2020. 6-7pm

This week we’ll be looking at Rossini – Overture to William Tell.

There’s something for everyone in this “symphony in 4 parts” (Berlioz). The gorgeous slow introduction for the celli and basses, the magical flute and cor anglais duet, the thrilling trumpet and horn fanfare, and everyone gets involved in the storm scene and the finale, even the triangle.

Your parts can be found here:

We’ll be using the Kalmus 1933 edition and playing along to an archive Toscanini recording from 1939.

We will meet on Zoom, which works on all computers, tablets and smart phones. You don’t need to have any special programmes or apps on your device to make it work, you just follow a link which will be sent to you from Lorna before the meeting.

We will be continuing to invite players to stay on the Zoom call longer to join a ‘breakout room’ to allow a chance for members to catch up with one another. Please let me know in advance if there’s particular people you’d like to catch up with and I’ll match you together! Andy is likely to use this feature throughout the session to link up similar instruments or passages of music.
