Cobweb Orchestra #ustoo recording

22nd September 2019 @ 9:00 am – 6:00 pm
Coquetdale Music Trust, Thropton
Northumberland NE65 7ND
Andy Jackson

This will feature as part of The Bowes Museum’s 2019 Autumn Exhibition: Guido Reni, The Power & The Virtue.

It would be good to have the same musicians involved in the recording who attended the workshop on 3 August, but it is not essential if you are not free on both dates. Unlike most Cobweb events, it is free to take part in this, and there is even a budget for travel expenses if you are coming from a long way away.
If you would like to participate, or have any questions, please contact:
What is a soundscape?
This is what sound artist and composer Rupert Philbrick says about it:

Arts education and training company Changing Relations is developing #ustoo – a nod to the #metoo movement’s intention to give voice to those with hidden experiences of abuse.

I will create a 30 minute digital soundscape that melds together classical, experimental and electronic music. Cobweb players will have 2 opportunities to contribute to the project (details below) and then have their work listened to by 1000’s of visitors at The Bowes Museum.
Saturday 3rd August, 9 am-1 pm #ustoo workshop @ The Bowes Museum, Barnard Castle
This is a first opportunity to flesh out my early compositional ideas and will involve musical games and exercises to develop alternative orchestral textures, as well as recording a series of samples & snapshots of the morning’s work.
Sunday 22nd September, 9 am – 6 pm #ustoo recording @ Coquetdale Music Trust, Thropton
The day will be spent in a professional recording studio in a beautifully converted church in Northumberland working with sound engineer Ian Stephenson recording the final compositions for the soundscape.
It is hoped that the soundscape will contribute towards a growing movement that looks to confront issues around Domestic Abuse.”
