Haydn Needs Flutes, Oboes (Clarinets), Bassoons, Horns, Trumpets, Timps and Strings
The 14th session of the Haydn Symphonies project will be held at Wylam Institute on Saturday 25 January 2020 from 11.00 am until 4.00 pm. with a shared lunch.  We have now looked at 73 symphonies and remain on schedule to complete this project in April 2021.  We will be resuming our journey in 1779, the year of the fire at Esterhaza, and will conclude this session looking at two of the Paris Symphonies.  The symphonies I hope to look at are 70, 75, 63 (La Roxelane), 73 (La Chassse), 82 (L’Ours) and 86.  All of these symphonies have parts for flute, oboes, bassoons, horns, trumpets, timps and strings. clarinets are welcome to join us and oboe parts transposed for Bb clarinets will be available.
We have now reached he stage where Haydn’s symphonies require permanent flutes and bassoons in addition to the usual oboes horns and strings and this batch of symphonies also requires trumpets and timps.  I hope that the extra players now needed for this project will come along and join us.  The preparation of parts for this project is time consuming and it would be appreciated if you could enrol as soon as possible so that I know how many parts I need to prepare and to give me time to fill any holes we may have in the orchestra.  Have a great Christmas and New Year and if I don’t see you before I look forward to seeing you all at Wylam in the New Year.
