Cobweb Orchestra Musical Book Club

11th June 2020 @ 6:00 pm – 6:45 pm
£4/5 (members/non-members)
Lorna Wright

A group of Cobweb players will meet online to discuss a piece of music. It’s the same principle as the familiar concept of a book club, except that instead of reading and talking about, for example, “Pride and Prejudice” we’ll listen to and talk about a well-known composition from the orchestral repertoire. This week’s Book Club will begin with us playing the music, then we’ll discuss it, then we’ll play it again. All on mute, of course.

We will meet on Zoom, which works on all computers, tablets and smart phones. You don’t need to have any special programmes or apps on your device to make it work, you just follow a link which will be sent to you from Lorna the day before the meeting.

The work to be played and discussed this time will be Mendelssohn Symphony No. 4 “Italian” 4th Movement. You’ll be sent the music beforehand with rehearsal markings. It is your responsibility to make sure you have this available to you for the meeting.

£4/5 (members/non-members)

To make payment, simply make a BACS transaction using the following details:
A/c: 65560297 Sort Code: 08-92-99 Reference: “BOOKCLUB/your surname”.

If you need to send a cheque, please do send this addressed to ‘The Cobweb Orchestra’ to 5 Valeside, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE15 9LA

Because of the difficulties of using Zoom for large groups, membership of the group will be limited to 25 people. However, unlike Cobweb events, where it is usually “Strictly first come on a desk by desk basis”, there is no limit to the numbers of any one instrument that can enrol, so if the first 25 attendees are all flautists and clarinettists, then that will lead to a very interesting, if slightly biased, discussion!
