This is the longest established of the regional groups and players will attempt just about anything from the orchestral repertoire.

Less experienced players sit alongside old hands for a bit of friendly guidance.

Recent music has included Mendelssohn, Beethoven, Bizet, Brahms and Sibelius.

There’s a lovely view to enjoy at Dipton!

Summer concert news

“The Life and Times of South Medomsley Pit”

A grant from Banks helped us to cover a project to represent the history of the South Medomsley Pit in music. A central part of the project was the commissioning of a new work by Andy Jackson, which is dedicated to our late double bass player Bernard Haston.

The concert will consist of some pieces performed by the Baroque Group, the main body of pieces by the full orchestra and the new work by Andy called ‘Absence’. Most of the works are short and easy with a local connection, and will be played at some point  on Thursday evenings at Dipton so you would be most welcome at any of these.

We are due to be visited and photographed on Thursday, 17th March!

If you need a part for this new piece, please send a message to Howard Rocke: howardrocke@yahoo.com

Rehearsal: Saturday 28 May, 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Concert: Saturday 11 June
Conducted by Andy Jackson and Greg Pullen

No fees will be charged for either of the two days, but please “pay what you feel” to support Cobwebs.

Please let Lorna know if you are able to join us on 28th May and/or 11th June.
