This is the only weekly group which meets in the daytime and it attracts players of all levels of experience who manage to make themselves free for a couple of hours on a Wednesday afternoon.

Averaging between 30-40 participants, with most instruments represented, the ensemble is usually of symphony orchestra proportions and is happy to tackle almost anything from the orchestral repertoire of the last 250 years. Recently we have played works by Grieg, Dvorak and Malcolm Arnold as well as Nielsen’s monumental 2nd Symphony ‘The Four Temperaments’.

Another feature of this group is that we are often visited by guest soloist and conductors. We have been accompanying Italian soprano Barbara Gentili this term.

Summerhill is a lovely place to play!

Our ‘Musical Picnic’ is hosted at Summerhill in July:

Virtual Play Alongs 2021

The Tyneside group has had great fun playing along to music on Zoom with Andy leading, with cards showing rehearsal marks and bar numbers! Pieces enjoyed were Chabrier’s ‘Espana’, with plenty for the brass to get their teeth into, Holst’s ‘Jupiter’, including the wonderful tune “I vow to thee, my country”, and Mendelssohn’s ‘Italian’ symphony.
