Information for players going to the Sedbergh residential 5-7 April 2019

Our Spring residential weekend is very popular this year! All the beds are now taken and no additional meals can now be booked as the dining room is full. In previous years, some people have found B&B accommodation locally so that they can be fully involved in the event. There may still be space for any players who’d like to come on a daily basis for any of the music or social sessions.

The deadline for payment is Friday 15th March.

As always there will be a wide variety of repertoire, and most will be for a large symphony orchestra: Dvorak Symphony no. 7, Mendelssohn ‘Ruy Blas’ Overture, Rimsky-Korsakov ‘A Russian Easter Overture’, Smetana ‘Hakon Jarl’. Parts will be provided for all instruments at the weekend, transposed if possible. They are also available on the Petrucci website.

We’re delighted to be joined by Trio Taliesin – Kirsten Wilson (violin), Alice Jones (cello) and Tara Clifford (piano), who will be playing Beethoven’s Triple Concerto. This is scored for chamber orchestra, but parts have been made for additional instruments so that everyone can join in everything.

Those of us who enjoy singing get together to form a ‘midnight choir’ after a visit to the pub on Friday night. If any of them meet with general approval, we may get to perform them. If you’d like to join in, please email Andy so he can send you the songs in advance to print your own copy: andy.jackson0@talk21.com

Everyone is welcome to perform a short item either by themselves or with others during our Saturday evening Concert Party. It would be helpful if you could let Andy know in advance if you wish to perform, and if you need a pianist to accompany you. Please also contact Andy f you are a pianist who would be happy to accompany another player.

The ‘Sunday Supplement’ session is always something a little different, and for one of the activities planned this year, everyone is invited to play a second instrument. Sitting in a different section of the orchestra will give you an insight into how the whole thing works.

There will be a collection of second-hand music and mini scores  available for sale by donation during the break times,  so don’t forget to bring your small change!
