We had a fantastic concert in Middlesbrough last weekend. Thanks to all of you who performed, and of course to Peter Gulbis.

On behalf of the Billingham group, we were so pleased to have such a good number of you join us, take on the busy programme and the ‘fast’ rehearsing, and be faced with a playing conductor! Nevertheless I felt confident from the outset, with the evident rhythmic cohesion and the growing confidence of our orchestral tone quality and palette. There were many lovely moments, one of mine the hushed simplicity we achieved at the start of the last waltz (South Pacific, ‘This nearly was mine’). Such occasions as this carry a much longer significance than simply the 3 hours or so we were together. It was a very successful Cobweb event, as surely it was for Classical Cafe. Let’s trust there will be more!
