Join our friend Joe Davies for another study day – this time with guest soprano Lucy Britton for a wonderful day looking at George Butterworth’s ‘ A Shropshire Lad’ and other songs.
Britain’s most underappreciated composer? Join Joe Davies (Conductor) and Lucy Britton (Soprano) for an exploration of George Butterworth, featuring his Shropshire Lad Rhapsody and the eponymous Song Cycle. Tragically killed in 1916 at the Battle of the Somme, Butterworth’s music represents a tribute to a lost generation, a moving testimony to the days lost by so many. Kaleidoscopic harmonies combine with glorious melodies in the music of one of Britain’s finest.

The return of our Cobweb Autumn Residential is only two and a half weeks away! We already have a super orchestra but would love to expand some sections. The costs for the weekend are as follows:
Resident (10am Sat to 4pm Sunday) including 2 x lunches, dinner and continental breakfast – £140.00
Saturday Non-Resident (10am-6pm) including lunch – £55.00
Saturday Non-Resident (10am-midnight) including lunch and dinner – £70.00
Sunday Non-Resident (10am-4pm) including lunch – £45
Meals are included in the charge made by Emmaus and there is no option to bring your own packed lunches/teas – sorry.
“Journeys and Landscapes: Music Inspired by Nature and Place”
Throughout the weekend we’ll be playing a mix of Classical and Romantic works, with each piece evoking a sense of place or natural beauty – works including:
Carl Maria von Weber – Overture to Oberon
Ludwig van Beethoven – Symphony No. 6 (Pastoral)
Franz Berwald – Symphony No. 3 (Singulière)
Ralph Vaughan Williams – Overture to The Wasps
As well as the music, there will also be a little time to socialise, play in small ensembles, enjoy a drink, toast marshmallows on the firepit, take walks in the lovely countryside, etc. It’s going to be a fabulous weekend – just what we need in the mad run up to Christmas. If you would like to have a look at the flier that was recently sent out, please click here. Emmaus would like to have final numbers by Monday 4th November so if you would like to join us for some or all the weekend, please sign up here ASAP.
