Tyneside

This is the only weekly group which meets in the daytime and it attracts players of all levels of experience who manage to make themselves free for a couple of hours on a Wednesday afternoon. Home-made cakes are enjoyed each month which also helps us to raise funds.

Averaging between 30-40 participants, with most instruments represented, the ensemble is usually of symphony orchestra proportions and is happy to tackle almost anything from the orchestral repertoire, such as Mozart, Grieg, Dvorak, Holst, Mendelssohn, Chabrier and Malcolm Arnold. Another feature of this group are visits from guest soloists and conductors, including the Italian soprano Barbara Gentili.

The Summerhill Picnic is an annual event.

It’s open to everyone, not just Summerhill players, and it’s a great way to meet up with other Cobwebbers to enjoy playing together in the summer.

2024 has probably been the only year it hasn’t rained, but we still had to watch out for music blowing off the stands!

Music included: Rossini – Overture to Semiramide, Berlioz – Le carnaval romain, Bernstein – West side story, Coates – Dambusters March, and Puccini – O mio babbino caro and Un bel di.
